An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Why are we so interested in apples? There are approximately one thousand seven hundred and twenty three different types of edible fruits, but only one that has been said to have the ability keeping the doctors away. Apples dietary value is much more than just vitamin C and fibre. Apples are the major contributor of dietary polyphenolics, therefore making them a great source of antioxidant. Polyphenolics is a group of chemical substances found in plants, characterized by the presence of more than one phenol unit. These compounds are very sensitive to temperature, light, pH and of course oxygen. Studies have shown that polyphenolics demonstrate beneficial properties towards human’s health especially in heart and cardiovascular diseases, cancers and diabetes.
